Wild Meadows is a pioneering residential development in Medina, Minnesota, that elevated the concept of “Living with Nature” to a new, ecologically-healthy level in the Twin Cities area.
The design of Wild Meadows was inspired by other successful AES conservation developments including Prairie Crossing in Grayslake, IL. AES served as the ecological consultant on the Wild Meadows design team, and provided field services for restoration, installation and maintenance.
AES worked with site planners to design around, and with, the existing natural resources, restoring 200 acres to native landscapes. Fifteen restored or created wetlands function as part of the stormwater management system.
An ecological approach to stormwater management – the AES Stormwater Treatment Train™ – was a priority for the site. The STT guides stormwater naturally through gentle vegetated swales and a series of mesic to wet prairie restorations prior to entering restored wetlands.
AES conducted annual O+M to ensure the health of the natural areas. Ecologists also conducted an extensive hydrologic monitoring program to provide data documenting the effectiveness of the STT.
