The 17-member Metropolitan Council is a regional policy-making and planning organization that has guided strategic growth of the Twin Cities greater metro area for 50 years. The Council has maintenance responsibilities for native vegetation on holdings associated with essential community services such as transportation and wastewater treatment in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and many surrounding suburbs.
A restoration and management plan was needed to guide long-term maintenance that responds to site-specific needs ranging from new restorations to general management of existing prairies. AES designed just such a plan and then twice was awarded a system-wide maintenance contract. As a result of sound ecological design and targeted management strategies, the varied Met Council sites continue to improve in quality and diversity of native vegetation.
