Mark O’Leary, M.S., returns to AES
Brodhead, WI – Applied Ecological Services (AES) announced that Mark O’Leary, M.S., will re-join the company as a Principal Ecologist. Mark served as Ecologist/Project Director with the company from 1999-2009. As a scientist who understands how to navigate the regulatory environment and who enjoys working with the design industry, he will provide unparalleled scientific and project leadership for AES.
Mark rejoins AES with more than 25 years of experience as an ecologist practicing throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Europe. His work focuses on environmental planning, design, mitigation, and permitting, specializing in natural resource evaluations and assessments, green infrastructure, and river restoration. His professional career experience includes work for AES, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Forest Service, and design firms.
AES’ CEO/President Steve Dischler stated, “We are thrilled Mark has returned to AES. His scientific credentials and strong project portfolio are assets to our clients and company. He has an extraordinary ability to bring a client’s land-use vision to fruition in a manner that is sustainable, practical, and satisfactory to all parties involved.”
Mark has unique expertise in resolving conflicts between people and nature, facilitating ecologically sustainable solutions, and working with design professionals to restore healthy ecological systems. He is well-versed in resolving regulatory issues to the satisfaction of clients, agencies, and conservation organizations.
While Mark is an avid conservationist and sportsman, he recognizes that people will continue to have a profound effect on the ability of the landscape to sustain ecosystem services that we value. He keeps a note taped to his desk that reads: “How can we leverage every land use change to enhance or restore ecosystem functions?”
“Sometimes the land changes so quickly, you wonder how you can make a difference,” Mark says. “But you can, and we are. I look forward to the challenge and opportunity to inspire land and water practices that are healthy for people and the environment.”
