Fresh Kills update In the last issue of Confluence, we covered AES’s involvement on the winning conceptual design team for the Fresh Kills Landfill restoration. AES is now under contract and starting initial site investigation studies, with Dr. James Ludwig serving as Director of Ecological Restoration for the project. AES Project Manager Bill Stoll says that current work involves surveying natural areas on Staten Island in an effort to develop templates for the landfill restoration efforts. AES is installing groundwater-monitoring wells to document hydrology in natural wetland areas and detention basins at the landfill. Collected data will be used to restore detention basins on the landfill site.
